Where did all the record shops go?

It is obviously blatantly very apparent that there is a distinct lack of independant record shops in the UK today. That is just the way it is, as we advance in human endeavour and we bathe in the richness and wealth of the digital age we unfortunately loose some of the rare beautiful delights that only some people enjoy and appreciate. But perhaps this near extinction of the humble music peddler makes those few left all that more important and worthwhile.

The Russell Club is a massive fan of Soho's Sounds of The Universe which can be found here in the physical dimension

and here if you prefare to browse from your bedsit in Dalston

But Russell Clubers our favourite Record shop of all time without a shadow of a doubt is the almighty X Records in the northern town on Bolton. Forever a source of great inspiration and always a happy place. Well worth a yearly Christmas pilgramage.

Every music enthusiast worth their salt should have a collection of records, wether they be a few pieces passed down from a relative or a massive mountain of House Music promos from those heady days of the late 90's, vinyl is a treasure and a must.

  1. Well said!!! I was just listening to my records the other day. I have a great collection of music. There is nothing like the sound quality of a record. We still have a great record store in my city though! You talk to young kids today though and half of them have no idea what a damn record is. It is a shame!!

  2. I agree well said. I too have a great collection of music (Vinyl, CD, Tapes!) I know technology allows to transfer to digital, but Like Stephany said, nothing has the sound of tru vinyl or having to turn over the tape. I do love kicking back, spinning a groove - going back in time where nothing mattered unless the record skipped.

Here in DC, I know only of one Record Shop, mostly hailed as a DJ outlet/resource. I go every once in a while.

    Long live vinyl and RC!
